COACHING AND MENTORING
Testimonials from former clients
Frances and I met at a NASPA/SACSA Mid Manager Conference in New Orleans in 1991. From that meeting, she became my faculty mentor and we have always stayed in touch. Over the years, I have called on her many times for professional advice, but clearly the most memorable time was when I was selected to be a finalist at UM for the VP for Student Affairs job. She counseled me to “let President Foote know I wanted the job.” I responded that I wasn’t comfortable. Her quick reply “ Well, I guess you will not get the job.” I followed her advice and have served at Miami for the last seventeen years as V.P.

I have had the good fortune to have been supervised, coached, and mentored by Dr. Lucas for over 20 years. She asks me the right questions to help me find my own sometimes surprising solutions. When I talk to her, she cuts through layers of multiple, competing factors and zeros in on the most critical issue I need to address.

Frances Lucas has been a strong higher education leader. She served as the Vice President of Student Affairs at Emory University when I was a student. She has been a role model and mentor to me for years. She is open honest and supportive. She has reminded me as a female leader there are always choices to make, but that one must never back away taking a leap of faith to help others.

Dr. Lucas and I have been professional friends for years, so when I wanted to choose an executive coach to enhance my decision making in my first year at UNC, Charlotte, she was my choice. Having her as a thought partner has far surpassed my highest expectations. She has inspired, supported, and challenged me to enhance my performance in ways I could not have ever imagined. Frances is an A+ coach.
